College of Business students bridging gaps between classroom and business world

On May 6th, 2014, Mario Ferrer (Assistant Professor of Operations Management) and Maurice J. Murphy (Instructor of Management) took this semester’s Principles of Management (MGT301)class on an academic field trip to Unicharm Gulf Hygienic Industries, in order to bridge the gap between the business classroom and the business world.

Unicharm Gulf Hygienic Industries is a joint Venture company between Al Murjan Group and The Japanese Unicharm Corporation, one of the world’s leading companies in manufacturing and distribution of health products (Baby Diapers, Feminine Napkins and Adult Incontinence)

Unicharm Company is well Known at the global level of its technical inventions and scientific advances in each of the following areas (Feminine Napkins, Baby Diapers and Adult Incontinence), being the first to produce the Culotte Baby Diaper, which has created a new value to the consumer and shifted  the structure of Baby Diapers market. Unicharm Company occupies the first place in its domestic market share in Japan, and it occupies similar places in some other markets where there are plants in Japan, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Indonesia, Taiwan, Thailand, Philippines and some European countries.

Whilst visiting the company, students were given a presentation by the executive management team of the company, and were subsequently allowed to question the executives on topics including the firm’s corporate and business strategy, human resource management policy, Saudization strategy, marketing strategy, operations and supply chain management, and corporate social responsibility. Additionally, MGT301 students were given a comprehensive tour of the company’s manufacturing facility and overall operations. Professor Mario, Mr. Maurice, and MGT301 students are truly thankful to Unicharm Company for their hospitality, as well as the comprehensive educational opportunity they afforded the class.
